Red, white, blue, and all things tasty! This easy recipe comes together in under 10 minutes and will be gone in seconds. A fun and patriotic treat that is perfect for your holiday gatherings and outdoor BBQs.

Why you’ll be addicted to this recipe!
There’s something about holidays that we all get excited for when we think about food that you only have during that time. The combination of sweet and salty flavors keeps everyone coming back for another handful. It is the kind of snack that disappears quickly at parties because it appeals to both kids and adults. Little mess, no oven required, and one bowl?! What’s not to love about that.
Tips for Perfect Puppy Chow
Almond Bark: When melting the white chocolate, heat it slowly and stir frequently to prevent scorching. White chocolate can be more delicate than regular chocolate, so taking your time helps create a smooth coating that evenly covers every ingredient. If the mixture seems too thick, a small amount of coconut oil can help create a silkier consistency. Once the white chocolate is melted, work quickly to toss it with the cereal mixture. Gently fold everything together using a large spatula rather than stirring aggressively, which can break the cereal and crush the cookies. After mixing, spread the puppy chow onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow it to cool completely before serving.
Variations: Not only is this holiday dessert easy, you can also make it super customizable! Here are a few things you can switch:
- Mini peanut butter cups
- Mini Oreos
- Pretzel sticks
- Red, white, and blue sprinkles
- Golden Oreos
- Chopped peanuts
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Rice chex cereal: Can use corn chex cereal as well
- Cherrios: A nice texture variety to the batch
- Pretzels: The salty pretzels give the perfect little surprise with each bite that you didn’t know you needed. It creates the perfect harmony between salty and sweet.
- Chocolate chip cookies: With each bite you get the perfect crunch with a subtle softness that leaves a lingering taste of chocolate chip cookies behind.
- Patriotic M&Ms: Who doesn’t LOVE M&Ms?! The iconic candy we have all grown up loving and they don’t melt into the mix so you get a nice subtle crunch of chocolate.
- Mini marshmallows: Adds a subtly amount of softness to balance out the crunch (and mini marshmallows are just fun!)
- Candy melts: Blue and White chocolate brings a fun pop of color that’s fitting to this sweet dessert! Add this when you are almost done tossing everything together to avoid the colors from blending too much.
- Almond bark: The secret to create this tasty dessert. Almond bark works best because it doesn’t require any tempering and is very forgiving.

How to Store Puppy Chow
Room temperature storage tip: Stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place, Patriotic Puppy Chow will stay fresh for up to one week. Avoid storing it in warm or humid environments, as excess moisture can soften the cereal and affect the texture.
Freezing storage tip: For longer storage, place the puppy chow in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag and freeze for up to two months. Allow it to come to room temperature before serving.
